Academic Tournaments

Students at Board Meeting

The SCPS Academic Tournament is the district level competition for participating high schools in Seminole County Public Schools. The participating SCPS high schools organize and coach brain bowl teams that practice throughout the year in preparation for the district tournament.

SCPS Academic Tournament players are asked questions from the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, the fine arts, world languages, physical education, health, and technology. Standards-based content and cross-curricular questions are written by educators from high schools across the state.

The district competition runs five weeks long beginning in January and ending in mid February. Scores are cumulative each week with the final round determining the high school district winner. Each high school coach then decides on an all-star team of players to represent Seminole County Public Schools at the state level, the Commissioner' s Academic Challenge, sponsored by the High School Athletic Association and the Florida Department of Education.

For more information on participating in the brain bowl, contact the coach at your participating school. Each coach determines their school practice dates/time and has access to district tournament information and schedules.
