In the Spotlight

Lake Mary High School - Rammark

Students in this enterprise are on an Access Diploma within the Exceptional Student Education Program. These students have their own unique challenges with learning, communicating, and interacting with the world around them.

Through this Enterprise the students are able to showcase their outstanding talents in art, technology, and construction. The Rammark Enterprise is providing students with real world work experience which will help them become productive members of their community in the future. Currently, the Rammark Enterprise is creating and selling coffee, greeting cards, bird houses and coasters (small and large).

Teacher in the Spotlight

Mr. Barrett has been at Lake Mary HS since 2006-2007. He spent his first two years working as an ESE Science teacher where he co-taught Earth/Space Science and Biology. He also had a few classes of self-contained E/S Science, Biology and Physical Science. During the 2008-2009 school year, Mr. Barrett switched positions and began working with students in the Severely Intellectually Disabled classroom. Mr. Barrett is now working with many of the deferred students in the Transition Classroom.

Mr. Barrett finds many different jobs around campus that his students can complete. They currently run the Recycling program at Lake Mary and they also help out in the Food Pantry stocking shelves and packing bags for people in need. LMHS students also package snacks on Tuesdays and Thursdays for off-campus clubs and activities. Mr. Barrett have also been fortunate to be a part of the launch team for LMHS's enterprise which is known as "Rammark Enterprises". Through the enterprise they have created greeting cards for Christmas and Valentine's Day and they are now working on "Thank You" cards and "Get Well Soon" cards. After last November's election, they used the old political signs to make Birdhouses, which many people wanted to buy. During this school year, the Rammark Enterprise has started making and selling coffee for the staff at Lake Mary High School.

When students are not working on a job, Mr. Barrett works with them on basic money and time/calendar skills. He also helps them practice filling out job applications.
